I am trying to learn piano on my own through the use of books, DVDs, the internet, etc. Any tips for learning?

I really love the sound of piano and really want to learn. I will be
taking a class in college for piano at the end of August but I want to
get my feet wet so to speak and learn before then. Have you taught
yourself how to play piano and is there any useful advice, resources,
or tips you can provide? Any information provided would be greatly
appreciated :-).
